State of Play 2026 Recap: What Fans Were Most Excited About

The latest State of Play has officially wrapped, and as always, it sparked plenty of reactions across the gaming community. For those unfamiliar, State of Play is Sony’s official PlayStation broadcast where upcoming games are showcased through trailers, gameplay reveals, and announcements. It’s streamed online rather than held in person, and it doesn’t follow a fixed schedule—Sony releases it whenever there are major updates to share.

Before the event aired, fans were already buzzing about what might appear, and much of the hype centered around a few major franchises.

One of the biggest talking points was Marvel’s Spider-Man and Wolverine from Insomniac Games. These titles continue to dominate expectations thanks to their strong track record and the potential for new gameplay footage or story updates.

God of War also remained a constant presence in fan speculation. Even without confirmed announcements beforehand, the franchise continues to be one of PlayStation’s most anticipated series whenever an event is announced.

Horror fans were especially focused on the possibility of Until Dawn 2. The original game built a strong cult following, and the idea of a sequel generated a lot of excitement heading into the showcase.

JRPG fans were equally hopeful, with Final Fantasy and other genre staples frequently mentioned in discussions. Whether it was a remake, expansion, or brand-new title, expectations were high across the board.

While not every prediction always lands, State of Play events are known for surprises. Part of the excitement comes from speculation itself—seeing what the community gets right, and what no one sees coming.

Now that the showcase is over, attention shifts from predictions to reactions: what stood out, what surprised fans, and what the future of PlayStation looks like in 2026.
